Cape Spear Lighthouse National Historic Site, 11 kilometers south of St. John's, is the most easterly point in North America, and has Newfoundland's oldest lighthouse. It is a popular, if chilly, spot to watch the sunrise as well as sight whales, seabirds, and icebergs.

The Cape Anguille Lighthouse Inn is situated in the former home of the lighthouse keeper and his family. Cape Anguille is one of those areas where a camera just does not do it justice. You can walk along a quad trail which goes from the Inn, past the lighthouse and down the coast quite a ways.

The island is home to the Cape Bauld lighthouse and an inn that you can book into during the summer months. You get to Quirpon Island via a zodiac from Quirpon. While we were in Quirpon, we stopped in to see Bill Bartlett who builds model lighthouses. Bill helped build the current lighthouse on Quirpon Island.
